Biodiversity Credit Case Study: Panama

Biodiversity is not only the foundation of healthy ecosystems — it is the basis of human life and global economic stability. Over $44 trillion — more than half of global GDP — depends on nature for goods and services such as clean water, food, medicine, pollination, and climate regulation.

In|Flow is thrilled to offer a conduit for interest in Health In Harmony’s signature biodiversity credits in Panama.

In partnership with the FSC Indigenous Foundation and funded by IDB Labs, Health In Harmony supports Indigenous communities in eastern Panama to monitor and protect their forests through cutting-edge biodiversity tracking and community-led storytelling. By combining MRV science, traditional knowledge, and conservation practices, the project safeguards threatened species, strengthens local economies, and ensures forests continue to thrive for future generations.

This initiative supports three Embera/Wounaan communities: Puerto Lara, Arimae, and Emberá Purú. These communities sustain their livelihoods through eco-tourism, coffee and banana cultivation, rice farming, and handicrafts — all tied to the health and integrity of the forest. Their stewardship is generational and vital to the preservation of biodiversity.

These communities have generated 47,125 pre-certified biodiversity credits, with additional credits being issued monthly. Each credit reflects the measurable protection of threatened species and ecosystems.

If this unique opportunity to support a growing and ethical model of pre-certified biodiversity credits generated by Indigenous communities in the Darién region of Panama, In|Flow would be happy to set up a call with Sasha Matthews, Global Scale Manager at Health In Harmony and Co-Executive Director at SAMA-HIH.
